Building a just green transition: Challenges and opportunities of eco-social policies

03-10-2024

Afterwork discussion, 3 October 2024, 17.30-18.30. SAVE THE DATE.

The European Green Deal sets an ambitious agenda for climate neutrality by 2050. Achieving this goal necessitates a fundamental transformation of our economies and societies. However, this transition cannot solely focus on environmental sustainability; it must also be just and equitable.

A just transition ensures that the burdens and benefits of decarbonization are shared fairly. It means actively addressing the potential negative impacts on workers, communities, and vulnerable groups, while maximizing the opportunities for decent work, social inclusion, and improved quality of life.

With a newly elected European Parliament and ahead of the formation of the next European Commission, this public debate comes at a pivotal moment to put forward bold, innovative ideas that can influence the direction of EU policy. High-level speakers from the trade unions, policymakers, civil society, academics, and industry will share their ideas on how to address both the environmental and social dimensions of the green transition.

Organised by the ETUI and the OSE, with Università degli studi di Milano and Università di Padova
